Gum Arabic
This product comes from Hadramout, in the southeastern part of Yemen.
The solidified sticky sap produced by the Acacia Tree is abundant in tropical and subtropical regions. We find it in particular in Sudan, which is the largest producer of it, and it is found in some countries in the south of the Arabian Peninsula, like Yemen and Oman.
Over the centuries, gum Arabic has been well-known in the aromatic and medicinal repertoires of cultures along the spice route.
Gum Arabic is extracted by scratching the bark of Acacia Trees with a sharp tool to release a sticky sap that condenses and solidifies with exposure to air to form later solid pieces collected by hand.
Gum Arabic has been known for its many uses, especially in herbal medicine, traditional treatments, and cosmetics since ancient times. Acacia is also used to modify a number of the physical properties of foods, like texture.
